Mustangs win 6-5

After losing their last two games, the Mustangs continued their road trip as they traveled to High Point-Thomasville. Martinsville took an early lead but the HiToms would rally back to tie the game. After a rain delay in the eighth inning the Mustangs came out and scratched across a run on a bases loaded walk, leading to a 6-5 win.

Star Wars and Fireworks Night brought out late inning dramatics on Saturday night. With the game tied at four in the eighth, Emilio Abreu drove in Lee Sponseller to give the Mustangs the lead for good. The Mustangs visited the Salamanders of Holly Springs on Friday night. In front of a packed house the Mustangs took a brief lead but fell behind early for the third straight game. As they did the first two nights, Martinsville rallied back to win, handing Holly Springs their third straight loss.

Coming off of a tough loss to Forest City last night, the Mustangs hosted the undefeated Gastonia Grizzlies. Martinsville trailed early but took the lead with a six run third inning which helped them to an 8-7 win. Martinsville improved to 3-3 while Gastonia fell to 7-1.

2017 Coaching Staff Announced

The Martinsville Mustangs are pleased to announce the return of Danny Higginbotham as the team’s Head Coach for the 2017 season. This will be Higginbotham’s second year with the franchise.

In his first year as head coach with the Mustangs Higginbotham led the team to a 24-29 overall record in a season marred by injuries while sporting a 14-11 home record in front of the great fans at Hooker Field.
