The Martinsville Mustangs have announced the addition of a familiar face to the 2019 roster.
Senior right-hander Ryan Evans of Grambling State University is set to return for a second season with the Mustangs.
Evans, an Orlando, Florida native, spent last summer in Martinsville, appearing in 14 games and locking down eight saves, good for second in the Coastal Plain League. The righty struck out 12 hitters in 17.1 innings of work in a Mustangs uniform.
This season at Grambling, Evans has secured five saves in 14 appearances and has fanned an impressive 19 batters in 19.1 innings. On April 23, Evans made his first start of the year, allowing just two hits, striking out six and working into the fourth inning of the Tigers' 14-7 win over Alcorn State.
Grambling currently sits at 21-19 overall and 14-7 in SWAC play. The Tigers will host Southern for three games this weekend.
The Mustangs are celebrating 15 seasons of Coastal Plain League baseball at historic Hooker Field in 2019. Martinsville opens the 2019 campaign on Thursday, May 30, at Wilson before returning home on May 31. For news and ticket information visit www.martinsvillemustangs.com or call 276-403-5250.
