Trailing 6-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Martinsville Mustangs rallied to tie and eventually walk-off in ten innings 7-6 over the Asheboro Copperheads on Sunday night at Hooker Field.
The Mustangs (1-2) led 5-2 in the the ninth but the Copperheads (3-1) struck four times off reliever Ryan Evans (Grambling St) to retake the lead 6-5.
Second baseman Chase Dawson (Valparaiso) finished the game a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBI and a homer. His single in the bottom of the ninth, followd by another base knock by first baseman Josh Falk (South Dakota St) helped the Mustangs tie the game 6-6.
After turning a crucial double play in the top of the tenth, the Mustangs got an infield single from left fielder Greg Lowe (Davidson) to start the inning and a walk-off single from shortstop Jake Lorenzini (Wayne State) to give the Mustangs their first win of the summer.
Righty starter Lowell Schipper (Richmond) worked four innings, allowing just one run on four hits. The Mustangs used a combination of six relievers the rest of the way including Cody Dooley (Concord), teammates Jeff Lonnecker and Ian Hussian (Trinity), Kyle Lysy (Shippensburg), Evans, and Matt Tuggle (Averett).

- Bobby Morgensen (Hutchinson CC) tied the game with his first home run of the season in the second inning.
- Catcher AJ Kloehn (Lafayette) batted ninth and reached base three times with a single, double and walk.
The Mustangs will hit the road Monday for a contest against the Peninsula Pilots at 7:05 PM.
