The bats were quiet for a second straight game as the Martinsville Mustangs dropped a 4-0 decision to the High-Point Thomasville HiToms on Tuesday night at Hooker Field.
Hitless until the seventh when Joe Boyle (Indiana State) blooped a single into left, the Mustangs got a solid start from lefty Tyler Smith (Cal State Fullerton). The rising sophomore went five innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, while striking out two in his debut.
The HiToms (3-2) opened the scoring in the fourth when Myles Christian (MTSU) smashed a two-run homer to right-center to make it 2-0. The HiToms added one more in the fifth and another in the ninth.
Three other relievers saw action for the Mustangs including Cody Dooley (Concord), Addison Domingo (Ohio Dominican), and Ian Hussian (Trinity). Dooley pitched two innings and allowed a hit, while Domingo and Hussian each went a single inning and scattered a few hits.
The Mustangs (1-4) will face the HiToms again on Wednesday night in Thomasville. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
