Ten Hits Not Enough In Mustangs 6-2 Loss To Steamers

Despite out-hitting the Edenton Steamers 10-8, the Martinsville Mustangs couldn't muster up much offense in a 6-2 loss on Wednesday night at Hooker Field.

Both teams exchanged runs in the first inning before the Mustangs (9-13) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second on a Danile Vitello (Mars Hill) RBI single, one of two hits for the centerfielder.

The Steamers (10-11) busted the game open with a four run, fourth inning powered by a two-run homer by Ben Whetstone to make it 5-2.

Despite trailing, righty Addison Domingo (Point Park) struck out five and worked a solid 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in relief of starter Gavin Weyman (Towson).

Weyman wiggled out of a few jams in the early innings, but only went four innings and allowed five runs on eight hits.

Martinsville will return to Hooker Field on Thursday night to face the Wilson Tobs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
