Despite taking a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, the Martinsville Mustangs fell 5-3 to the High-Point Thomasville HiToms on Wednesday night at Finch Field.
The Mustangs (15-15, 4-1) jumped ahead early when Cross Factor (Oklahoma St) homered two batters into game, making it 1-0 Martinsville in the first.
Following back-to-back solo Hitoms home runs, Josh Falk (South Dakota St) answered with an RBI single in the fifth to allow the Mustangs to retake the lead, 3-2.
Lefty starter Garrett Sendelbach (Ohio Dominican) worked two outs into the seventh, allowing five runs, only two earned on nine hits. HiToms star Myles Christian was the last batter Sendelbach faced and he delivered the big blow, a three-run shot to right to give the HiToms their first lead of the night.
That 5-3 lead would hold the rest of the way, as the Mustangs were unable to rally and dropped their first contest of the second half.
Martinsville will return to action on Thursday night, making a second trip in three days to Hampton to face the Peninsula Pilots. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
