Mustangs Well-Represented On 2018 All-CPL Teams

The Martinsville Mustangs were well-represented on both the first and second 2018 All-CPL teams announced last week by the league office.

Second baseman Chase Dawson (Valparaiso) and starting pitcher Addison Domingo (Point Park) were selected to the first team, while outfielder Daniel Vitello (Mars Hill) and starting pitcher Lowell Schipper (Richmond) were named to the second team.

Dawson, a rising senior at Valpo, led the Coastal Plain League this summer with a .395 batting average and 66 hits. He also led his Mustangs team in RBI's, stolen bases, doubles, games played and slugging percentage. In June, he was selected to the CPL Select Team that faced Team USA and in July represented Martinsville at the CPL All-Star Show in Lexington, SC.

Domingo, who took advantage of the league's new graduation policy, finished the regular season leading in ERA with a 1.59. The righty worked into the ninth inning of both of his last two starts, including throwing a complete game, three-hit shutout of the Asheboro Copperheads on July 21.

On the second team, Vitello showed his versatility throughout the summer, starting all positions in the outfield. He finished with an impressive .308 batting average, good for second on the team, and added three homers with 17 RBI's.

Schipper, a rising junior at Richmond, caught fire in the second half of the season. In his final start on July 26, Schipper allowed just two bloop hits in seven innings and struck out a season-high 12 Wilson Tobs batters on 114 pitches. It was the second straight start in which he had recorded 11 or more strikeouts.
