The Martinsville Mustangs are excited to announce the release of the 2019 schedule. The Mustangs will open the new season on the road against the North Division rival Wilson Tobs on Thursday, May 30.
Celebrating 15 summers of Coastal Plain League baseball at historic Hooker Field in 2019, Martinsville will begin the 22-game home slate the next day, Friday, May 31 against the same Tobs team at 7:15 p.m.
Following a road contest in Peninsula on Saturday and an off day on Sunday, the Mustangs will host the High-Point Thomasville HiToms for the first of five scheduled doubleheaders throughout the season on Monday, June 3 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
The Mustangs longest road trip of the season comes the next week when Martinsville embarks on a six-day, five city trip visiting the Edenton Steamers, Savannah Bananas, Macon Bacon, Lexington County Blowfish, and Fayetteville SwampDogs. Outside of the Steamers, the Mustangs did not face off against any of those opponents in 2017.
Martinsville will open up the second half of the season on the road against the HiToms on June 30 before the annual CPL All-Star Game July 7-9. Following the All-Star break, the Mustangs will visit the Gastonia Grizzlies for the first time since 2016 on Thursday, July 11 and host the Holly Spring Salamanders at Hooker Field on July 12.
The Mustangs final regular season home game is slated for Thursday, August 1 against the HiToms.
Together, each team will play a 52-game regular season schedule and the league will be split into four divisions - North, South, East, and West - with four teams in each. The Mustangs will look for their first-ever Petitt Cup Playoffs bid in 2019, which again consists of three rounds beginning on August 4 and running through August 10.
All home games at Hooker Field will start at 7:15 p.m., with seven-inning doubleheaders set for 6:15 p.m.
