The Martinsville Mustangs are excited to welcome Georgia State freshmen Josh Smith and Jackson Sisk, as well as junior catcher Tyler Blaum from UVA-Wise and right-hander Calvin Bush out of Concordia University Texas to the 2019 roster.
Smith, a College Park, Georgia native, is enjoying a successful first season as a Panther. The freshman outfielder is hitting .288 with four doubles, a triple and has driven in 21 runs. Smith has played in 43 of 48 games for Georgia State this season.
Sisk, a former second-team All-State selection in Class 7A who helped Etowah High School to the 2017 state title as a junior, has been dealing with an injury throughout his freshman season but has still managed to play in 33 games. The shortstop has scored five runs and registered six hits in 33 at-bats.
Blaum, a catcher out of Mechanicsville, Virgina, is hitting a team-high .369 for UVA-Wise in 2019. The junior has racked up an impressive 62 hits, 17 doubles, four homers and 27 RBI. Blaum leads the Cavaliers in nearly every offensive category and has thrown out 18-of-36 base stealers. Blaum was also recognized at the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week on March 4.
Bush, a redshirt junior, is having a stellar season at Concordia University Texas, pitching to a 5-0 record and a team-low 2.02 ERA. On April 26, the righty tossed a three-hit complete game shutout with 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over UMHB. He has racked up 27 K's in his last 15 innings pitched. Bush has also recorded three saves and has allowed only 11 earned runs in 49 innings pitched this season.
