Third baseman Tyler Riebock (Ouachita Baptist) homered for the third time this season, but the Martinsville Mustangs fell 9-4 to the Edenton Steamers on Friday night in front of 1,000 at Hooker Field.
Right-hander Gavin Weyman (Towson) made his second start of the summer for the Mustangs, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two in four innings of work.
After the Steamers (10-8) built up a 3-0 lead, catcher Hank Moore (Lincoln Memorial) got the home team on the board with an RBI single in the fourth. Moore reached base all three times in the game.
Following back-to-back walks by Jack Capobianco (Belmont) and Will Schroeder (North Carolina) to begin the fifth, Riebock crushed a two-out, three-run homer over the right field wall to give the Mustangs a 4-3 advantage.
Edenton, however, would score six unanswered runs, including three in the eighth and three more in the ninth to pull away and secure a 9-4 victory.
Martinsville returns to action on Saturday, June 22 at Peninsula. First pitch in Hampton is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Mustangs are back home at Hooker Field on Monday night, June 24 for a Dollar Monday Doubleheader, featuring $1 general admission tickets, $1 hot dogs and $1 select beer beginning at 6:15 p.m.
