After falling short 5-2 in Game 1, the Martinsville Mustangs used three home runs to power their way to a 14-7 win in Game 2 to split a doubleheader at Historic Hicks Field in Edenton on Friday night.
The first contest was a continuation of a weather suspended game from June 9. Martinsville (9-16) trailed 5-0 entering the ninth before a wild pitch and RBI single by Hank Moore (Lincoln Memorial) made it a 5-2 game, but the Mustangs two-out rally was cut short.
In Game 2, the Mustangs scored early and often including twice in the first and second, three more times in the third and added five more in the fourth.
Right-hander Austin Elliott (North Carolina) got the start in the second seven inning contest, allowing only three hits and striking out five in four innings of work.
Martinsville finishes the first half of the season on Saturday night at Wilson. First pitch against the Tobs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Listen to the game on the Mustangs Baseball Network here.
