Powered by a pair of three-run innings in the fourth and eighth, the Martinsville Mustangs shutout the first half champion Wilson Tobs 6-0 at Fleming Stadium on Saturday night.
Right-hander Gavin Weyman (Towson) made his third start of the summer and allowed no runs on three hits and struck out three in five innings to notch his first win of the summer.
Following a walk by Will Schroeder (North Carolina) and an infield single by Hank Moore (Lincoln Memorial), outfielder Trey Woosley (Frontier CC) unloaded on a full count pitch and sent a three-run homer over the wall in right to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead.
In the eighth, Martinsville loaded the bases before scoring a run on a Tobs error, another on a sac-fly RBI by Ethan Whitley (UT-Martin) and one more on a single by Josh Killeen (Wichita State) to grab a late 6-0 lead.
The Mustangs finish the first half with a 10-16 overall mark and will open the second half of the summer on the road, Sunday at 5 p.m. against the High Point-Thomasville HiToms at Finch Field.
