Four-Run Sixth Propels Mustangs Past Owls 7-6

Fueled by a four-run sixth inning, the Martinsville Mustangs held off the Forest City Owls 7-6 for a fourth straight win on Monday night at Hooker Field.

Righty Calvin Bush (Concordia TX) made his fourth start of the summer, allowing four runs, two earned on three hits and struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work.

After the Owls grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth, the Mustangs responded with four runs in the bottom half.

Trey Woosley (Frontier CC) picked up an RBI single to tie it, Tyler Riebock (Ouachita Baptist) scored on a wild pitch, catcher Kenny Bergmann (Newberry) sent a sac-fly to left and Josh Killeen (Wichita State) doubled home another to give the Mustangs a 7-4 lead.

The Owls trimmed the deficit to 7-6 in the eighth, but right-hander Charlie Hasty (Wayne State College) entered in the ninth and despite allowing a two-out single, secured his second save of the summer.

Martinsville improves to 2-0 in the second half and 12-6 overall. The Mustangs and Owls will meet again on Tuesday night, July 2 at McNair Field in Forest City with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tune in on the Mustangs Baseball Network here.
