Early Runs Enough For Mustangs In 6-4 Win Over Tobs

Powered by three runs in the first and three more in the second, the Martinsville Mustangs knocked off the Wilson Tobs 6-4 in front of 2,137 at Hooker Field on Friday night.

The Mustangs (4-2, 14-18) opened up a 3-0 lead in the first when Trey Woosley (Frontier CC) reached on an error and shortstop Jack Capobiano (Belmont) shot an RBI single to center.

A Tyler Riebock (Ouachita Bapitist) two-run single and a Hank Moore (Lincoln Memorial) RBI double made it 6-1 Mustangs in the second. Riebock finished the game with three hits.

After the Tobs trimmed the deficit to 6-4 with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, righty Charlie Hasty (Wayne State College) entered and worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure his fourth save of the summer and give the Mustangs a second straight win. Hasty was one of seven pitchers used by the Mustangs in the game.

Martinsville returns to Hooker Field on Saturday night for the final contest before the All-Star Break. First pitch against the Edenton Steamers is set for 7:15 p.m.
