Sigrist's Walk-Off Single Snaps Mustangs' Skid

Sigrist's Walk-Off Single Snaps Mustangs' Skid

Despite trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Martinsville Mustangs used a two-run walk-off single by shortstop Jack Sigrist (Wichita State) to knock off the Wilson Tobs 4-3 and snap a seven-game losing streak on Friday night at Hooker Field.

Righty Tomas Sorcia Jr. (Newberry) made his first start of the summer and allowed only two runs on five hits while striking out eight in five innings of work.

The Mustangs (5-9, 15-25) trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth before Dylan Tuttle (Guilford), playing his first game of the summer in the outfield, knocked home the first run of the night with an RBI single.

Trailing 3-1 in the eighth, first baseman Trey Woosley (Murray State) trimmed the deficit to one with an RBI sac-fly to center to make it 3-2 heading into the final frame.

After right-hander Ryan Evans (Grambling State) worked an important 1-2-3 top of the ninth, the Mustangs used a walk by Alfonse Sadallah (LaSalle) and singles by Kenny Bergmann (Newberry) and Dominic Cox (Rice) to load the bases with one out.

With the bases full, Sigrist lined a two-run single to the corner in left to give the Mustangs their first walk-off victory of the summer 4-3.

Martinsville returns to action on Saturday night at Historic Hicks Field against the Edenton Steamers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Watch the game live here.
